"When I contacted Kara I was overweight, on high blood pressure medicine, and so sad from starting and stopping quick weight-loss programs . My grand plan was to lose a TON of weight in 3 months then be DONE! Ha!
Each month , Kara planned a workout that challenged me physically and mentally ...there were push-ups and pull-ups ,high intensity intervals ,weights and core strengthens (with no sit-ups) all the programs were adapted to my ability .The results? I am down 25 lbs.,off my blood pressure medicine, and best of all, a new confidence and pride in my new healthy, strong body.
I still have work to do. I will never be "all done"- that is one important lesson Kara has taught me . Taking care of yourself is a life long job ! It has been an honor to train and work with Kara . She has changed my life forever, and I am so very thankful!

"I knew when we started that there were some things that I needed to work on, but I wasn't really clear on what I should do. Kara made me take a realistic look at where I was and helped me to get on the path to where I want to be. I also appreciated the fact that Kara encouraged one change at a time. I can feel overwhelmed and defeated when taking on too much. She reminded me that change takes time."

"When I started ProCoach (PN) with Kara, I was frustrated with myself for not being able to get healthy on my own and for being at a weight I was not happy with. This frustration had grown over the last few years and when I read about the program, I thought "This sounds like something I can do. PN gave me the confidence and skills I needed to break out of my rut of unhealthy choices and helped me connect to positive decision making I had abandoned over the last few years. I positively changed some unhealthy things in my life in a educational, habit-based approach with the support of a great coach.”-Shary (ProCoach nutrition client)
"I've been with Kara for 5+ years and have steadily lost weight and gained strength. I signed up with ProCoach and have been getting daily lessons to keep me on track to lose those last few pounds and maintain a healthy weight. The lessons are easy to follow, encouraging and are things I have heard before but they back it all up to help you succeed. I just STOPPED taking a glucose medication-this week an A1c blood test confirmed it was down to 5.2! It had been 8.9 at its highest 4 years ago. I have noticed the inflated tube around my waist has been disappearing and my clothes are fitting better. I stopped taking an acid reflux medication I have taken for years. My doctor said, "I have never had a well diagnosed diabetic patient that was able to get their A1c so low." By following ProCoach, my goal is to regulate my glucose with foods and not medication. This has been a very positive experience and I am so thankful I decided to try PN Coaching. I LOVE HAVING KARA AS MY LIFE COACH!!! Thank You Kara for offering this wonderful opportunity and caring so much about your clients." -Kathy (ProCoach nutrition client)
"When I first started with Kara I had already lost weight from running but wanted to try something new and little did I know that I would have her as my personal trainer for over four years. During that time I had many great things happen in my life from getting married to having my first child and she helped me along the way. With her assistance and encouragement I felt great in my wedding dress, got stronger during pregnancy with different workout plans that were safe for me and afterwards she came up with workouts in which I could do with our newborn son that were fun for both of us. I received new workouts each month that were challenging enough to be difficult but not so hard I couldn't complete them. Kara taught me many different ways I could work out at home with things I already had. She was always a fantastic motivator knowing just when to push harder or lay off. Kara gets to know you on a personal level to see what aspects in life she could help you with and is always willing to listen. Other fun things Kara does are takes time to offer fun healthy cooking classes, group outings and workouts and challenges which are great additions to her training. Kara is a wonderful coach and motivator helping her clients achieve their goals both big and small. ” -Pam T

"I loved being a part of Precision Nutrition program, ProCoach. I had slow, lasting results by making small, consistent healthy lifestyle changes. Changes that I can pass on to my kids and use over a lifetime! I also liked the daily emails to keep me on track. The PN program is well designed and new skills are tracked in an encouraging, positive reinforcing way. They understand the lives of busy people by breaking skills down into easy tasks. I learned so much! I would recommend this program to everyone, from beginner to the novice health expert! Great program!" - Lorie (ProCoach nutrition client)
"The first parting words of advice Kara gave me after our initial consultation were "Eat more food." So I did. 3 weeks later, I had lost almost as much weight as I had lost in the previous 6 months of regular exercise! Since then, we continue to add new goals and the weight just keeps dropping off. She's been supportive; she's the voice in my head that reminds me that life changes don't have to be hard when you tackle them one at a time. I am no longer hungry, nor do I feel deprived! I just feel good! She is straight forward, accessible, and informative- everything you want in a nutrition coach. Her group training classes are some of my favorite workouts! Small changes = big results with Kara!!" -Jodie Meurer
"Before working with Kara, I knew the basic principles of how to stay fit, but needed help creating a fitness program and sticking with it. In the 2 years working with her, I gained strength and lost inches, and was able to stay fit and healthy through a pregnancy!
Kara has the amazing ability to create a dynamic workout plan personalized for each client with challenging, but achievable goals. She realizes the importance of incorporating all aspects of fitness into the workout plan- not just weight training and cardio, but also flexibility, nutrition, and mind/body wellness. . I love that she is super flexible and able modify workouts to wherever I want to be: my home, her studio, the gym, or even outside. She is also great about checking in and accountability, to make sure you stay on track.
One aspect of Kara's programwhich I enjoy is that she organizes health/fitness related outings and fun contests; these outings and contests not only help her clients stay engaged and on track with their programs, but also helps them feel like part of a community.
Kara is not only a great trainer, but she is also a genuniely nice person. Her fun, easy going, friendly personality creates a comfortable atmosphere which makes workouts fun. You can see Kara's passion for fitness throuth the energy and enthusiam she brings to each session. She is commited to her work and her clients, and that definitely shows. I highly recommend Kara as a personal trainer!"-Annie Meares
"Kara and I went to high school together, and have stayed in touch over the years. I participated in sports in junior high and high school, but always had a BMI in the overweight range. I decided to join Weight Watchers after having my daughter, who is now 10, and reached my goal weight after about 6 months on the program. Over the years, I stopped tracking my food intake and didn't exercise regularly, so I gained back all but nine pounds of my original weight loss. A year ago, I recommitted to Weight Watchers and again reached my goal weight. Even though I was happy with the number on the scale, I wanted to strength and tone my body so I wasn't so "jiggly" when I moved around. I also wanted a plan for how to maintain this weight loss. Losing weight is difficult for me, and I don't want to have to go through this process again.
I contacted Kara to see if she would be interested in training me remotely because I live in Iowa City, Iowa. I have been thrilled with her program. She is very attentive to my questions, and motivates me to push myself toward my goals. I have gotten so many compliments on my newly toned arms and legs. Kara will help you get your results!” -Traci Wagner
Kara Short – The “WOW” Factor. What can I say about Kara Short? Definitely not enough. W.O.W. I never thought when I started training with Kara that I would have made the progress that I’ve had. Since I started training with her 9 months ago, I’ve lost ~28 pounds and about that many inches. I’m nearly as strong as I was in my early 40s. Also, everything I’ve learned from Kara about exercise and healthy living, I’ve been able to apply to the rest of my non-exercise life.
My teeny, weeny goal. I was setting my goals low. In November 2018, I told Kara I only wanted to be able to exercise regularly again without pain in my knees. I didn’t care about losing weight. I gained 30 pounds prior to/after my mom’s terminal illness. Every time I tried to exercise after that, I would end up hobbling around in pain a week later, which would last for a month. I wasn’t ready to think big.
Teeny, weeny goal morphed into something wonderful and giant. After training with Kara these last 9+ months, I like how I look now, I’m stronger, happier, extraordinarily grateful for her coaching and guidance. Most important, though, is that I believe I can achieve any physical goal. I’m now starting “locomotion” on my own and am training for a half marathon in January in Florida.
The habits ¬– oh the habits! This is the TOP benefit of training with Kara. Developing these habits has had a multiplier effect in my life – adding to my feeling of well-being and productivity. Eat slowly. Eat 4 cups of veggies every day. Stretch. Foam roll. I even started adding other habits related to my housework and paperwork and have started to incorporate these strategies into my life, which has led to greater happiness.
Circle the “Y.” I love the monthly calendars and feel so empowered when I circle the “Y” to show that, YES, I did my habit. As more “Ys” have been circled each month, I was more and more motivated to do more.
The stair challenge. I really turned a corner on cardio with the stair challenge. The first week it was hard – but always something! Each time I took a break to use the restroom, I did a flight or two of stairs. What happened? I saw my balance work on the wobble disc improve dramatically in just three weeks. About the same time, the nightly news reported that stairs are twice as effective as walking. I’ve continued to do stairs since January. Often I do 30 minutes of stairs cardio at home.
The motivation cards. You might think these cards don’t have an effect, but they do. As you look at them on your frig, or pull them out of your pocket, you are reminded of what small things can do. Always Something – Not All or Nothing. Reset. It’s Up to Me. I’m still trying to get her to create a Yoda card: “There is no trying, there is only doing.” We’ll see.
Tracking, tracking, and more tracking. Writing it down. Again, a huge motivator. My calendars in the beginning were pretty bare. Now they are packed. Why? The stronger I get, the more I want to do.
Never a boring session. Every month Kara prepares 2 new workouts and they are always FUN! (But also hard). Good to change it up for physical progress, but also motivating to see the physical gains from the beginning to the end of the month.
